Lexus denies it will reintroduce a wagon version of its third-generation IS sedan, but that hasn't stopped fans from imagining itCool new renderings of a born-again Lexus IS SportCross have hit the internet, just six weeks before the launch of the third-generation IS sedan in Australia on July 8.
Lexus suggested via Facebook that it may reintroduce a SportCross wagon version of the IS when the MkIII mid-size sedan debuted at the Detroit motor show in January.
"Do you remember the '02 IS 300 Sport Cross with its style, utility and performance?" said Lexus on its Facebook page at the time. "Will we bring it back? Watch the 2014 IS premiere on Facebook in 6 days to find out!"
Since then, however, it has poured cold water on the prospects of a new IS wagon due to economic conditions in Europe, which would be its largest potential market, and because it would be a hybrid model in a predominantly diesel segment.
But that hasn't stopped 'master photochopper' Theophilus Chin and Chris Doane Automotive from presenting their idea of a 2014 IS SportCross, Photoshopped images of which have now been published on the Lexus enthusiasts' website.
Although it was never made available in Australia, Lexus produced a SportCross wagon version of the first-generation IS, which was released in 1999 and replaced by the second generation in 2005.
