The COVID-19 lockdown of Italy has had some bright lights – opera from the balconies and, even better, an homage to the classic street racing video, Rendezvous.
This amazing piece of automotive aural #carporn surfaced on YouTube just a week or so ago. It reprises the classic Rendezvous short film shot in August 1976 in Paris. This time, the location is Rome.
It’s the work of supercar ‘biographer’ and classic car dealer, Simon Kidston, and his team at Kidston Productions. And while it’s the sort of stunt that many would decry, it’s for a good cause.
Says Kidston: “You’ve seen the original 1970s movie [Rendezvous], racing through Paris at dawn, which nearly landed the director in jail.
“So we asked ourselves: when better during our lifetimes to repeat the feat than now, with empty streets, to raise money for charity and help COVID victims? And which more beautiful city to race through than Rome?
“Here it is: please give something to the Italian Red Cross and spare a thought for your friends behind bars! Share using #cetaituneurgence”
Kidston has set up a gofundme.com page with benefits going to the Italian Red Cross. At our last look it had raised almost 13,000 Euros.
The only thing we’ve got to say is… We wish we’d thought of it first… Although Rendezvous Randwick doesn’t quite have the same ring to it…
