The original Knight Rider TV series, which ran from 1982 to 1986, saw Michael Knight played by David Hasselhoff, fight crime with his high tech, artificial intelligent automobile, the Knight Industries Two Thousand (KITT). The car used as KITT in the show was a customised 1982 Pontiac Firebird Trans-Am sports car that cost around $100,000 USD to build (around $275,000 USD in today’s money).
It is said that throughout the four seasons of the hit TV show 19 cars were used, 14 of which were destroyed during or after production. The five remaining vehicles have been rebuilt over the years and have found new homes in the United States.
This KITT homage is technically not one of the five, but a replica of these TV KITT cars. Silverstone Auctions, the auction house tasked with selling this piece of '80s memorabilia is estimating that the car will go for between £15,000 - £20,000.
The 1983 Pontiac Trans-Am 'Knight Rider' KITT Homage was last purchased from Miami, Florida and imported to the UK in February 2016. Although it is not currently registered or have a road worthy certificate, it starts, runs and is drivable according to the auction site. And the interior is unbelievable!
The vehicle is set to go to auction on 9 November 2019 at the NEC Classic Motor Show Sale in Birmingham, UK.
