It's been one of the downsides owning a classically styled sports-car -- how do you incorporate new technology without ruining the period looks?
Porsche has recognised this conflict and come to the rescue of 911 drivers in the form of a satellite navigation system with the styling of the originally installed Blaupunkt AM/FM radio.
According to the parts catalogue as reported on motobullet.com, the faux navigation unit "...still carries the classic two-knob design with minimal buttons and chrome accents, but the radio dial has been replaced with a subtle navigation screen. This will fit all 911s from 1963 possibly until as late as 1977. It should also be a good fit for the first generation 912 and perhaps the 914."
By today's standards, the screen is minuscule, but for those with an eye for keeping their classics interior as close to authentic as possible, size may be a small price to pay.
Speaking of price, Porsche lists the device as available from next month at €595 (AU$827). No technical specifications are currently available.
