Mercedes-Benz has this week launched its heavily revised C-Class in Australia.
Incorporating some 2000 new parts, the popular mid-size prestige model is distinguished by a new, SLS-inspired front mask, complete with aggressively sculptured headlamps, aluminium bonnet and front guards, remoulded bumpers front and rear and, inside, a comprehensively redesigned dashboard.
The new look, which Mercedes-Benz says gives a strong hint as to the brand's future styling direction, is complemented mechanically by a new catalogue of alloy wheels, revised powertrain options, minor suspension and steering tweaks.
Two petrol and two diesel four-cylinder engines, all now mated as standard to a seven-speed automatic transmission, will carry the bulk of the new models' sales, and are available right away. These will be supplemented by a 3.5-litre V6 petrol and high-output 3.0-litre V6 diesel in sedan models from September. V8-powered C 63 variants, both sedan and Estate, will be made available at the same time.
The new C-Class range will be joined by the attractive new Coupe model from July.
Inside, the new C-Class boasts a stylish dashboard capped with a soft-touch pad and galvanised-look trim highlights. "Telescopic-styled" instruments, previously found on AVANTGARDE-spec models, are now standard across the range. The dial faces are backed in black, silver or cream depending on trim level.
Featuring a number of technological upgrades, C-Class now also incorporates a neatly integrated centre screen (which replaces the retractable unit), and a Nappa leather-bound steering wheel in both three or four-spoke design.
