Revised Pathfinder is all torque

Strong demand for diesel power seals petrol Pathfinder's fate

The new Nissan Pathfinder has landed in Australia with even more standard equipment and a new turbo-diesel engine that brings even more power and torque to the medium SUV segment.

Borrowing from Nissan stablemate, the Navara, the revised Pathfinder scores a fresh YD3K four-cylinder engine delivering 11 per cent more power (up 14kW to 140kW) and 12 per cent more torque (up 47Nm to 450Nm) from the same 2.5-litre capacity.

Towing ability remains unchanged at 3000kg (braked), though the combined average fuel economy figures have tumbled by as much as 15 per cent, now 8.5L/100km for the manual and 9.0L/100km for the automatic.  CO2 emissions have also been trimmed, now as low as 224g/km, for an 18 per cent improvement.

From an aesthetic angle, the fresh-faced Pathfinder adds a revised bonnet, grille, headlamps and bumper assembly, adding 80mm to the seven-seater's length.  Upper-spec Ti models pick up Xenon headlamps with auto-levelling and concealed washers.

Inside, a completely revamped centre dash cluster joins new door trims, seat fabric and chrome highlights. Mid-spec ST-L models gain electrically adjustable and heated (front only) leather upholstery, while Ti models ditch the dated woodgrain trim highlights in favour of a more modern metallic finish.

Staying inside, Pathfinder also adds more equipment to the already generous feature list with all models now fitted with Bluetooth handsfree connectivity as standard. Entry-level ST models now feature steering wheel-mounted audio remote controls and a six-CD tuner with auxiliary audio input.

Further up the range, ST-L and Ti models now include Nissan's 'Intelligent Key' keyless entry system, while the ST-L model adds (acoustic) rear parking sensors and curtain airbags. The range-topping Ti also gains a seven-inch touch-screen infotainment system with hard-drive based satellite navigation system, reversing camera and DVD functionality.

Available from this month, the new Nissan Pathfinder is priced as follows:
• Pathfinder ST: $48,490* (M) / $51,490* (A)
• Pathfinder ST-L: $56,490* (M) / $59,490* (A)
• Pathfinder Ti: $65,990* (A)
