Move over Tesla – Rivian has a cooler party trick.
If you weren’t already sold on the US EV-maker’s upcoming quad-motor ute and SUV models – which are claimed to sprint to 100km/h in three seconds and offer a driving range of around 600km – you might be after this video...
Rivian is yet to sell a single vehicle anywhere in the world, but the Michigan-based start-up plans to begin production of its R1T pick-up and R1S SUV in the second half of this year, followed by right-hand drive exports for markets including Australia.
And when they finally do arrive, the R1T and R1S will be fitted with a groovy 'tank turn' feature, enabling them to perform a 360-degree turn on the spot – preferably on softer terrain like grass, snow or mud.
The unique function is made possible by individual electric motors located at each corner of the vehicle and will be particularly helpful when navigating your way out of tight spaces – or to just simply turn some heads.
Whether the tank turn feature will be available in Aussie models upon their arrival in the next few years we’ll have to wait and see – but our fingers are most certainly crossed.
