Rolls-Royce Phantom dresses up for act two

Rolls-Royce has busted out its most opulent make-up kit and touched up its flagship limousine to create the 2022 Rolls-Royce Phantom Series II.

Tweaking the Phantom’s exterior appearance in accordance with client feedback, the upgraded Series II sedan now features a subtly reshaped and illuminated grille designed to attract more attention to the ‘RR’ logo and the iconic Spirit of Ecstasy mascot that resides above it.

The top of the grille itself is now crowned by a polished line effectively linking the thin daytime running lights on either side, with the illuminated front-end complemented further by “intricate laser-cut bezel starlights” which also happen to match the Starlight Headliner inside the cabin.

Other new cosmetic touches include redesigned alloy wheels available in either stainless steel or black lacquer finishes, while a darkened grille surround and black bonnet reins, windscreen surround and window frames can all now be optioned.

Nothing has changed within the vast cabin apart from the steering wheel, which features a thicker rim for 2022 given an increasing number of Phantom owners are wanting to drive themselves around.

For high rollers who still fancy being ferried about in absolute luxury – and won’t settle for the standard Phantom or smaller Ghost sedans, or the Cullinan SUV (the two-door Wraith and Dawn models are no longer available Down Under) – all of these changes have been applied to the long-wheelbase Phantom Extended as well.

The updated limousine range also gets the marque’s brand new ‘Rolls-Royce Connected’ multimedia system that allows for navigation destinations to be sent to the car via the Whispers phone app, which can now also show the vehicle’s location, security status and current ‘health’.

“With Phantom Series II, we have retained and carefully protected everything our clients’ love about this superlative and luxurious item; subtle, yet meaningful enhancements reflect their evolving tastes and requirements,” said Rolls-Royce Motor Cars chief executive officer Torsten Müller-Ötvös.

“The subtle changes we have made for the new Phantom Series II have all been minutely considered and meticulously executed.

“As Sir Henry Royce himself said: ‘Small things make perfection, but perfection is no small thing’.”

Pricing for the new Phantom is yet to be announced but you can bet your bottom dollar it’ll be more expensive than the current version, which has just been subjected to a $13,400 price rise and now costs a cool $915,400 plus on-road costs.
