Rolls-Royce’s Ghost has now been around for more than four years and is under fire from Bentley’s new Flying Spur, so it’s time for the hallowed Brit marque to begin rolling out the special-edition models to keep buyer interest on the boil.
Pictured alongside is the newly released Ghost V-Specification; a limited series of Ghost and Ghost Extended Wheelbase motor cars that will be available for customers to commission from January to June 2014.
V-Specification models gain a raft of upgrades to the powertrain, exterior and cabin, but pricing is yet to be announced.
The tweaks begin in the engine bay, with the 6.6-litre twin-turbo V12 gaining a 22kW power boost (for a total of 442kW), enabling it to dispatch the 0-100km/h dash in a sprightly 4.9sec.
As you’d expect, it promises to deliver the trademark RR ‘waftability’, with 80 per cent of peak torque on tap from idle.
The limited-edition model also comes with V-Specification motifs on the flanks, and buyers can choose from five bespoke exterior colours (Graphite, Black Sapphire, Black Kirsch, Arctic White and Infinity Black) or from Rolls-Royce’s 44,000-hue palette.
Optional exterior tweaks include chrome exhausts and 21-inch part-polished wheels, adding a dose of understated bling to the ‘compact’ Rolls limo.
The upgrades extend to the handcrafted interior, which gains V-Specification motifs on the treadplates, embroidered motifs on the rear armrest and hand-applied steel inlays on the front multimedia screen lid.
The interior tweaks are rounded off by an exclusively designed clock with a black crown surrounding the face.
“This limited series celebrates one of Ghost’s defining characteristics; the exquisite 6.6-litre Rolls-Royce V12 engine,” said Rolls-Royce chief executive Torsten Müller-Ötvös.
“Since its introduction in 2009, an extraordinary marriage of assured presence and remarkable driving dynamics has endeared Ghost to a new generation of highly discerning businessmen and women, ensuring the car’s position as the statement of choice for a growing band of successful entrepreneurs around the world.”
The RR boss’s comments are backed up a record sales tally for the brand in 2013, during which it delivered 3650 cars.
Rolls-Royce’s latest sales record is its fourth in succession, thanks to appreciable growth in its most lucrative markets, the US and China. Middle East sales also surged by 17 per cent.
The company’s sales charts were also boosted the launch of the new Wraith two-door coupe, billed as the fastest and most dynamic Rolls-Royce to date. Bespoke modification of new cars (a highly profitable business) also hit record levels.
