After issuing a shadowy teaser before Christmas, the rugged new 2024 Nissan X-TRAIL Crawler 4x4 has been revealed ahead of its public debut at the Tokyo Auto Salon on January 12.
Based on the latest fourth-generation (T33) version of the Japanese brand’s mid-size SUV, the new Nissan X-TRAIL Crawler 4x4 is said to be a concept for now, but has clearly been developed to show off its extreme off-roading potential.
That explains the huge changes over the production model in a bid to maximise its abilities in the rough.
The modifications include a revised bonnet and completely redesigned front bumper to allow a better approach angle.
Look closer and you’ll see two red tow hooks and a thin LED light bar in the lower air intake.
As we spotted from the earlier teaser, the X-TRAIL Crawler 4x4 also gets a high-lift suspension for greater ground clearance and 17-inch rims shod with huge all-terrain tyres.
Plastic guards and a roof rack with a further nine individual LED lamps complete the look up front.
Nissan has yet to release details on the Nissan X-TRAIL Crawler 4x4’s powertrain, but it’s thought the concept might come with a development of the all-wheel drive X-TRAIL e-POWER set-up.
Helping it crawl over rocks and drag itself through muddy or sandy conditions will be Nissan’s e-4ORCE all-wheel drive system that uses clever software to direct torque to the axle with most traction.
On the road, the same system also reduces pitch and dive associated with acceleration and braking.
Full details and more pics of the Nissan X-TRAIL Crawler 4x4 should be released in conjunction with its show debut later this week.
