Rugged Kia XCeed crossover lands
Ford Focus Active rival features jacked-up ride height, swoopier looks and debuts Kia's new digital instrument clusterThe all-new Kia XCeed has been released in Europe, where it promises to bridge the gap between the small Stonic and mid-size Sportage SUVs.
Based on the European Ceed hatch, the Kia XCeed is not destined for Australia, where the recently revealed Kia Seltos will become the new starter model in the Korean car-maker's growing SUV range by the end of this year.
The Kia XCeed shares a passing similarity to the Euro hatch, but ionly the doors carry over since every other body panel has been redesigned for the Ford Focus Active rival, which also scores a new front bumper with LED headlights and a swoopier C-pillar with new tail-lights.
Inside, the XCeed shares a cabin with the standard Kia hatch and is the first car in the Korean car-maker's line-up to feature its new 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster that will soon make its way into other cars in the range.
Under the bonnet the Xceed offers the choice of 88kW 1.0-litre three-cylinder, 103kW 1.4-litre four-cylinder and 150kW 1.6-litre four-cylinder turbo-petrol power, plus a 1.6-litre turbo-diesel with either 85kW or 101kW.
Improving its ride on and off the road, the more rugged Kia also gets softer springs that combined with hydraulic bump stops to improve comfort.
