Saab to facelift 9-3

Saab is revisiting some trademark cues in its upcoming 9-3 makeover

Saab is set to celebrate its 60th Anniversary this year with a facelifted 9-3.

Inspired by the Aero X concept car, and intended, it seems, to more closely align the 9-3 with its grandfather's axe 9-5 stablemate, the new model will get new headlamps, a more aggressive grille and one of Saab's older 'trademark' features -- a clamshell style bonnet.

Captured here by our spy specialists Carparazzi in Cabrio form, the new model's 'wrap-over' bonnet is obvious on the front and rear three-quarter photos hereabouts. The current 9-3 model (also pictured - see silver car) features a bonnet which boasts conventional shutlines.

The makeover includes revised front and rear bumpers, but the rear lights are unchanged -- at least on the car pictured.

The new car is tipped to debut in Europe later this year.
