Ford's all-new 2015 Mustang has yet to hit the streets, due in Australia in the second half of 2015, but celebrated American Ford tweaker Saleen Automotive has already revealed a teaser image of its take on the latest-gen pony car.
Dubbed the Saleen 302 – a reference to the cubic-inch displacement of Ford's legendary Windsor small-block V8 in the 1960s and 70s – the customised 'Stang looks more restrained than the donor car from which it's derived.
The gaping-mouthed grille of the standard Mustang makes way for a slim-line full-width unit, with the headlights now integrated into the front fascia.
The said, the lower section of the bumper/spoiler assembly packs more aggression, with a large central air intake and brake cooling ducts all sitting within blacked-out surrounds. The bonnet is also a bespoke unit, with the muscular central power bulge now incorporating an additional air intake.
Saleen is keeping mum on all the technical nitty-gritty for now, with not so much as a skerrick of info accompanying this teaser image, but it's safe to say the Mustang's 313kW/529Nm 5.0-litre V8 will be fettled for more potency.
All the company is saying for now is: "We feel this latest Saleen mustang model is perfectly positioned as the next American exotic, campaigning on the world stage.
"With this model being the first major Mustang redesign since 2005, we took this as an opportunity to push the limits in both design and performance.
"The final features and specifications of the 2015 S302 Mustang will be released as our unveiling and production draws nearer," stated the custom shop.
It's possible the Saleen 302 may make its public debut in November at the SEMA show in Las Vegas or at the Los Angeles motor show later in the same month. Of course, there's always the possibility it could surface elsewhere earlier than that.
One thing you can count on is that this won't be the last customised Mustang you'll see over the coming months, as other tuning mobs such as Shelby and Roush have their own ripostes waiting in the wings.
