Ford tuning group Saleen has revealed the first sketch of its first sixth generation Mustang upgrade, simply called the 2015 Saleen 203 Mustang.
Based on the new 2015 Ford Mustang (which judging on social media feedback is one of the best-looking coupes to date), Saleen has massaged the design by adding large 20-inch five-spoke wheels, lowering the suspension and integrating new bodywork.
A new 'Axial' grille revamps the front end and in combination with a vented bonnet provides the car a more aggressive demeanour. Top-shelf 'Black Label' versions of the Saleen 302 'Stang get an even bolder central induction bonnet.
A new rear spoiler, front and rear fascias, side skirts, plus subtle sticker work and revised rear quarter window trim round out the visual updates.
The global media launch of the all-new Mustang is taking place this week in the US, and motoring.com.au will be at ground zero in Los Angeles to drive what is shaping up to be one of the biggest new car launches this year, and certainly Ford's biggest launch in years.
Ford Australia has already taken more than 13,000 expressions of interest from Aussie buyers and the global car could become the most popular 'Stang in record time.
Saleen's modified Mustang will give US customers something a little different from the norm, its new 302 package also adding a few interior changes including new instrument details, unique floor mats and scuff plates. But it's what happens under the bonnet that will really get the pony car faithful interested, with a range of options available, including supercharging.
The entry-level 302 'White Label' takes the Mustang's 5.0-litre V8 engine that usually belts out 324kW/543Nm and turns it up just a smidge to 335kW/555Nm. This is via better fueling and breathing, thanks to a high-flow air filter, sports exhaust system and new fuel injectors. En ECU update also helps.
Then there's the Yellow and Black Label variants that turn the Mustang into something beastly, by adding a supercharger, intercooler and cold air induction system, to generate up to 477kW and 765Nm.
The Saleen 302 Mustang can also be fitted with high performance brakes, a limited slip differential and firmer suspension, not to mention a short-throw gear shifter.
Steve Saleen, CEO of Saleen Automotive, said the first glimpse of the Saleen 302 Mustang in July resulted in a "resounding response".
"With the finalisation of the all new Mustang model drawing near, we are working hard to bring the next vehicle in the Saleen line-up to life.
"This is a very exciting time for the Mustang community," said Saleen.
Although pricing hasn't been confirmed Saleen says a $US2000 deposit "will reserve you a car and secure your Saleen VIN number".
