Ferrari has confirmed that 40-year-old Michael Schumacher will return to F1 to fill in for injured Felipe Massa, who was hit in the head by a wayward spring at the Hungarian GP.
The move is expected to generate an unprecedented amount of interest in F1, putting once arch-rivals Kimi Raikkonen and Michael Schumacher in the same team.
Schumacher is expected to be in the gym six days a week as he attempts to reach race fitness for the European Grand Prix, which begins on the 23rd of August.
"I met this afternoon with Stefano Domenicali and Luca di Montezemolo and together we decided that I will prepare myself to take the place of Felipe," said Michael Schumacher, who last raced in 2006.
The seven-time world champion has 91 grands prix to his name and is one of the most successful F1 drivers in history.
"Though it is true that the formula one chapter was completely closed for me a long time ago, it is also true that for loyalty reasons to the team I cannot ignore [this] unfortunate situation.
"But as the competitor I am also very much look forward to facing this challenge," added Schumacher.
