Scuderia Cameron Glickenhaus teases McLaren F1-style supercar

Three-seat supercar with a central driving position makes a comeback

Race team Scuderia Cameron Glickenhaus has announced it will follow up its million dollar SCG003 hypercar with a three-seat/central driving position supercar.

While naturally reminiscent of the original 1992 McLaren F1, don't get your chequebook out just yet - the North American race team has so far just teased two small pics of its proposed next vehicle.

One of the pics, posted on the car maker's Facebook page, was captioned and appeared to suggest the car being considered would come with a lightweight carbon-fibre chassis and body panels, a high-revving engine with around 650HP (485kW), the option of a traditional manual six-speed gearbox, the iconic three-seats, and will be priced from $US 400,000 ($A520,000).

Later, Glickenhaus teased yet another pic, this time with drawings of the proposed central driving position.

Speaking to Facebook fans, Scuderia Cameron Glickenhaus suggested the design of the concept car would be influenced by a design from more than 25 years ago (coincidentally the timing of the McLaren F1).

Expected to weigh in at around 1200kg, the car maker ruled out a naturally aspirated power unit, claiming emissions compliance ruled out such an engine.

Instead, the company's second model could bag a development of the twin-turbo 3.5-litre Honda V6 used in the SCG003.

As well as a road car, Glickenhaus says, if there's demand, it would homologate the new supercar for almost any race series including LM GTE, GT4 and GT3.

It's not yet known when the North American race car and sports car maker plans to reveal the concept for its three-seat supercar, but Glickenhaus has already confirmed all cars will be manufactured in the US.

Named after movie producer/director and Wall Street investor, James Glickenhaus, Scuderia Cameron Glickenhaus was founded in 2010 after its owner decided spin-off a racing version of the one-of-one Enzo Ferrari-based P4/5 by Pininfarina.
