Chevrolet has shown off a new specially prepared Colorado for the SEMA custom car show in Las Vegas.
Called the Colorado Z71 Trail Boss Edition, the big ute is based on the same Z71 Holden sells here, but the Chevy equivalent gains accessories and performance upgrades not currently offered.
The Trail Boss, for example, gets a new automatic locking rear diff, an armoured plate to protect the transfer case, new recovery hooks, projector-beam headlights and an upgraded exhaust and air intake.
Said to offer a more off-road bias, the small truck show car rides on smaller 17-inch wheels (our cars come with 18s) plus off-road tyres.
There’s also plenty of additional styling touches, the worst of which must be a tacky illuminated Chevy logo.
Chevrolet hasn’t quoted how much more power the 2.8-litre diesel produces, but it’s expected to boost power only marginally from the current ute’s 147kW.
The US car-maker says it will evaluate response from the show to determine which of the options it will push into production.
