SEMA 2015: Hyundai’s six appeal

Korean car-makers shows off SEMA concepts. Range from Fast & Furious specials to SUV that can actually go off road

Hyundai unveiled six all-new concepts at the SEMA show in Las Vegas and these are the first official pics of the heavily modified vehicles, comprising three Tucson SUVs, two Genesis coupes and one Veloster coupe.

Teaming up with different tuners around the US, the JP Edition Tucson was created for those who like an adventure. Featuring a roof-top tent, there’s also high-lift suspension and off-road tyres to ensure you’ll never get stuck out in the bush.

Another Tucson is also toughened up. Prepared for the show by Californian-based off-road specialist, Rockstar Performance Garage (RPG), this vehicle was created with genuine off-road ability in mind and features a more powerful version of the 1.6-litre turbo-petrol engine the US market gets, although RPG’s not declaring its hand where power figures are concerned.

The Genesis coupes, meanwhile, are both said to focus on performance and luxury and come powered with supercharged 4.0-litre engines that kick out around 370kW.

The white, wide-bodied car, is created by tuner ARK Performance, who stripped out the interior and added lots of weight-saving carbonfibre trim.

The green car, created by TJIN, also has its own specially-designed body kit and gets coilover suspension.

Finally the Veloster coupe gets the wide-hips treatment too, and weight-saving body panels. Created by Blood Type Racing, its makers claim to have squeezed 370kW out of its small 1.6-litre turbo.

Perhaps the wildest of the bunch is the ethanol-powered 520kW 2.4-litre Tucson that’s not pictured. Created by Bismoto Engineering, it uses a huge turbocharger, race-spec intercooler and engine modification that took hundreds of hours of testing, making it the most unlikely candidate for circuit work.
