Kid Rock is Michigan born and bred and still lives near the Chevrolet plant in Flint. His working-class blue-collar roots play in his lyrics and he now hangs his famous hat in a Silverado 3500HD.
This year, as in years before, Chevrolet reached out to a few celebrities to add personal touches to a few show trucks for SEMA.
North America's biggest aftermarket equipment show officially starts tomorrow in Las Vegas and runs until Friday, but overnight Chevrolet and Kid Rock revealed the blinged Silverado at a special event.
Kid Rock rocked the big diesel with everything big, ballsy and bathed in chrome. As you can see, he doesn’t do subtle well.
“Seems like everybody is blacking things out these days, which I understand," he said. "There’s something to that, but to me there is just something timeless about going out and shining up your chrome.”
Rock wrapped the full-sized double-cab pick-up in red, white and blue graphics because nothing says 'Made in USA' like stars and stripes.
He added a touch of old-school with a long pair of vertical stove-pipe exhausts.
“I wanted the big bowtie on the grille and the big stove pipes to make it, you know, big and bad-arse. You know, like the new age of Detroit – just bigger and better,” he said.
As he describes it: “I wanted the design for the truck to be bold, but with features and elements that wouldn’t be out of reach for working-class guys.”
For shoes, he’s gone for 22s -- chromed of course, to match the chromed side steps.
The interior is complete cow in an acid-wash denim colour and texture. It also includes black carpet floor liners and a blacked-out instrument panel with silver trim
Seriously heavy-duty, the Silverado 3500HD is powered by GM’s Duramax 6.6-litre V8 turbo-diesel and a tough Allison six-speed automatic transmission.
“Hanging with some of the gals and guys at the Silverado factory in Flint was one of the coolest and most meaningful things I’ve done,” enthused Rock.
