Toyota has released pictures of a new targa version of its current Toyota GR Supra for this year's virtual SEMA360 modified car show.
Paying homage to the A80 Mk4 Supra that was available with a removeable roof, the new GR Supra Sport Top concept is based on the A90 Toyota GR Supra Heritage Edition created for last year's SEMA.
That explains its aggressive aero which includes a huge rear wing, large diffuser, door blades, fender extenders and jutting-out front splitter.
Masterminded by Toyota North America's R&D hub, the actual work on the latest concept was carried out by a paint shop in Fort Worth, Texas, using 3D parts made at the Japanese car-maker's US HQ in Michigan.
To compensate for gas-axing the roof off the Supra, extra rigidity has been added, chiefly under the body, to reduce flex.
Speaking of the roof, it's been replaced by two 3D printed composite panels that are now stored in the boot.
Finished in an Absolute Zero white paint, the Toyota GR Supra Sport Top also features round tail-lights and 10-inch HRE rims that hide uprated Brembo brakes.
Despite sharing most of its looks with the Heritage Edition, the drop-top GR Supra misses out on its modified 3.0-litre inline six-cylinder engine with larger Precision Turbo that boosts power up to 375kW.
Instead, it has to make do with the regular car's 250kW/500Nm that can launch the coupe to 100km/h from standstill in around 4.3 seconds.
Making up for the deficit, the Toyota roadster does get the Heritage's louder sports exhaust, allowing the driver to appreciate the Supra's six-pot soundtrack.
Despite the closely related BMW Z4 being a roadster, there are no plans to produce a production version of the Toyota GR Supra Sport Top, so the concept is likely to remain a one-off.
