SEOUL MOTOR SHOW: Kia CUB micro coupe

Korean company bares more Seoul in sub-light class CUB concept
Kia at this stage is calling it a “concept” but the sub-light CUB four-door coupe to be unveiled at the Seoul International Motor Show on March 28 has all the hallmarks of a potential production car.
At “less than four meters long” – about the same size as an Audi A1 – the CUB is “styled to appeal to trend-setting urban dwellers”. The classy little Kia appears to further extend the design possibilities explored by the Korean company’s president, stylist Peter Schreyer.
Not a lot – apart from the use on the concept car of two-point LED headlights similar to those seen on the company’s Quoris flagship saloon – is being revealed at this point about the details of the CUB coupe. The teaser press release merely says the little car will be “sleek and small, with a super-smooth exterior, a cheerful face (and), a daring character.”
Whether the CUB springs from an established Kia platform – the sub-light Picanto, for instance, or the slightly bigger Rio – is unknown at this stage. The Euro-centric Picanto (a VW up!, Mitsubishi Mirage-size car not yet earmarked for Australia and due for replacement early next year) is possibly more of a likelihood.
We will need to wait until 11.10am Seoul time for the opening of the show on March 28 to get the full details on Kia’s intriguing new concept.
