Seton returns to Nissan
Touring car driver Glenn Seton will drive a Nissan 370Z during the Classic Adelaide tarmac rally alongside a Carsales Network stafferGlenn Seton will take on his first tarmac rally when he enters the '09 Classic Adelaide (18-22 November) in a Nissan 370Z, which will herald a return to his motorsport roots.
Seton was just 22 years of age in 1987 when he almost won the Australian Touring Car Championship in a Nissan Skyline DR30.
The famous Skyline was powered by a 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbo engine outputting 246kW of power, while the new 370Z outputs 245kW thanks to its high-revving V6 engine, and has every chance of putting in a good performance.
"The DR30 was a beast," says Seton, "But the 370Z is a well-balanced, powerful and thoroughly enjoyable sports coupe. It will be a lot of fun to drive on Classic Adelaide roads."
Glenn Seton will be joined by the Carsales Network's Stephen Ottley on the Thursday and Friday of the event, who will be co-driving and driving, also making his Classic Adelaide debut.
Nissan's involvement in Australian motorsport started more than a decade ago, in 1958 when Yutaka Katayama (Nissan's advertising manager) fielded a pair of 1000cc Datsun 210 sedans in the 1958 Mobilgas Trial, a 19-day, 16,000km rally that succeeded the original -- and punishing --REDeX Trial of 1953.
Remarkably the Datsun duo claimed the top two podium spots in their class, and the Japanese marque has since had successes in rallying and touring car racing in Australia.
The Nissan R32 GT-R 'Godzilla' arrived on the scene in 1990 and stopped the unstoppable Ford Sierra Cosworths from claiming another title, then went on to win Bathurst in '91 and '92 making it three straight touring car titles in '90, '91, and '92 with drivers Jim Richards and Mark Skaife.
