New model year changes have added a seventh seat for the Subaru Exiga wagon. Unlike many of its (mainly SUV and peoplemover) competitors, the Exiga was available as a six-seater only; in three rows of two seats with a full-sized centre console for second-row passengers.
Subaru Australia says the addition is in response to customer demand for an extra seat. Nick Senior, Subaru Managing Director, said: "Ever since we launched Exiga we've had feedback that people loved the size and flexibility of the cabin, but some felt a seventh seat would be the icing on the cake, so that's exactly what Fuji Heavy Industries has now delivered."
Subaru updated the Exiga's specifications in January including reversing camera for the entry-level 2.5i model and Bluetooth audio streaming and dusk-sensing headlamps for the Premium.
The seventh seat will be introduced with model year 2013 updates which will arrive in models in June. MY2013 changes include restyled door mirrors and new 17-inch alloy wheel design for the Premium model.
Pricing for the MY13 Exiga is not yet available but Subaru Australia spokespersons told motoring.com.au the range will be offered close to MY12 prices.
Exact figures will be released closer to launch in June.
