SHANGHAI MOTOR SHOW: Honda and Acura concepts teased

Japanese car-maker set to preview China-focused offerings via a pair of concepts at Shanghai expo
Honda and its premium Acura division have released these teaser images of two new China-focused concepts that will be revealed next week at the Shanghai motor show.
Although the company has for now provided nothing in the way of useful information, it’s possible the Honda concept is a derivative of the 2014 Odyssey that was revealed at the recent New York motor show.
Meanwhile, Acura’s concept appears to be a compact or midsize crossover in the mould of the Lexus RX and Infiniti EX/FX.
Both concepts have a rakish (for their genres) profile with tapered roofline, roof-mounted spoiler and a generally pleasing stance – at least in the renderings.
That said, the transition from concept to production may way well see these vehicles being diluted to look relatively mundane – which has been the case with many Hondas in recent times.
At the Shanghai show, Honda will have a joint booth with Guangqi Honda Automobile Co., Ltd. and Dongfeng Honda Automobile Co., Ltd, and will display its full complement of models produced with its joint-venture partners.
In its press blurb, Honda says it will display models substantially identical to the mass-production version of the Concept C (a middle-class sedan concept developed exclusively for the Chinese market) and Concept S (an MPV concept developed primarily for Chinese market).
These two concept models were unveiled at last year’s Beijing motor show and their mass-production models are due to be introduced to the Chinese market this year.
Meanwhile, Acura’s stand will be graced by its new concept, plus the Chinese version of the all-new RLX, the brand’s new flagship model that’s making its debut in the world’s most populous nation.
