SHANGHAI MOTOR SHOW: Nissan says Friend-ME

Nissan embraces Facebook with the name of its new Shanghai-bound concept, Friend-ME

Nissan has released two teaser images of what it says is its first concept car created with key input from Chinese designers.

The edgy five-door hatchback, dubbed Friend-ME in an apparent nod to Facebook lingo, will make its world debut at 2013 Auto Shanghai next Friday (April 19).

No details have been provided for the all-new concept, with Nissan saying only that it was designed at Nissan Design China in Beijing, where Chinese stylists “were fully engaged in the design and development process”.

Designed to appeal to Chinese youth and “one of most exciting segments in the fastest-growing automobile markets in the world”, Nissan says the Friend-ME features a unique centre console that allows all occupants to share information equally under a “Four Seats, One Mind Connectivity” theme.

Together with its Chinese joint-venture partners Dongfeng Nissan Passenger Vehicle Company (DFL-PV) and Zhengzhou Nissan Automobile Co Ltd (ZNA), which mark their 20th and 10th anniversaries respectively this year, Nissan will display 20 vehicles at Shanghai next week.

Apart from the Frend-ME, they will include the GT-R, Quest, Murano and Nissan's new large global sedan, the Teana, which is known as the Altima outside China and goes on sale here later this year.
