Shannons auction classic Euro coupes
Porsche, Alfa and Mercedes coupes go under hammer for under $10kCar auction house Shannons expects the bargain hunters to come out of the woodwork with its latest offerings to be sold in August 31.
Calling its latest batch of vehicles 'credit card coupes', these sporty European models will fetch prices of between $5,000 and $10,000.
Italian car lovers will recognise the red 1983 Alfa Romeo GTV2000 coupe, which has 157,500km on the clock and is expected to sell for between $5,000-$8,000. It was fully re-trimmed in 2004, "drives very well" and is claimed to have only travelled 3000km in the last four years.
German car fans are catered for with a 944 Coupe from 1984. Fitted with a five-speed manual transmission, the neat and tidy Porsche has 126,613 clicks on the odometer, and should fetch between $7,000-$10,000. It also comes with a receipt file and books, proving its authenticity.
The second 'credit card coupe' from Germany is the very spacious 1974 Mercedes-Benz Compact 250 Coupe. This vehicle has lived with one owner and was delivered new through Lane's in Melbourne. It's completely original and has only 82,800 miles on the clock.
It will be auctioned unreserved with full books and history, and Shannons reckons it could sell for between $6,000-$10,000.
The three coupes are part of a 35-car fleet that make up Shannons Melbourne Spring Auction, which takes place from 7.00pm on Monday August 31 at 321 Warrigul Road, Cheltenham.
