Shannons Sydney Summer Classic Auction
Quirky French, British and Italian classics lead the charge at Shannons' Sydney Summer Classic AuctionShannons will host its Summer Classic Auction in Sydney on February 20, with a number of interesting ‘no reserve’ models up for grabs.
From France, an original left-hand drive 1959 Citroen 2CV imported privately only two years ago will go under the hammer. Extensively restored in the UK, the car has been used as a promotional vehicle and is currently on full NSW registration.
Recently serviced, the 2CV comes with a large receipt file detailing its restoration. It is expected to sell in the $12,000 - $16,000 range.
Italian aficionados will appreciate a no reserve and largely original 1965 Fiat 1800B sedan. The boxy model comes from a private Australian collection where it has been for the past six years.
Fiat introduced the 1800 in 1959 as Italy’s improving post-war economy increased demand for larger, more luxurious vehicles. The 1800B was introduced in 1961 when the car’s 1.8-litre engine was modified to deliver a total output of 64kW.
The 1800B on auction features a rare and original interior which the auctioneers say has an excellent patina. The car is in good running condition and sports a new clutch, rear main seal, radiator hoses and tyres.
Shannons are quoting a guiding range of $6,000-$10,000.
Finally, a UK classic will join its continental counterparts at the summer auction: an Australian-delivered 1973 Ford Capri 1600 coupe. Having recently undergone an expensive five-year restoration (totalling more than $20,000), the Capri was modified to replicate the 1969 press release model in the UK.
As such, it features a V6 bonnet, dummy side louvers, bumper over-riders and Rostyle wheels. Inside, Capri features modern bucket seats, a reconditioned dashboard and recalibrated instruments.
Powered by its original 1.6-litre four-cylinder engine the Capri is now mated to a later five-speed Sierra-sourced gearbox, and also features modified brakes and suspension. Shannons expect the Capri to sell in the $14,000-$17,000 range.
