Sharper Bentley Continental GT S and GTC S revealed

Upgraded suspension and design tweaks for Bentley’s two-door twins

The achingly beautiful Bentley Continental GT coupe and GTC convertible have just become faster and more expensive with the reveal of new S versions for both two-door luxury machines.

The S upgrades give the twin-turbo 4.0-litre V8-powered Bentley Continental GT and GTC a new performance leader, positioned below the 6.0-litre W12-powered Speed flagships.

Oddly, though, the Bentley Continental GT S and GTC S have not had a power boost, nor a speed boost, with the biturbo V8 retaining its 404kW and 770Nm outputs.

The acceleration data is unchanged, too, with both S variants reaching 100km/h in the same four-second figure as the standard Continental GT and GTC.

The only significant engine change is a new sports exhaust that increases the engine noise from the crossplane V8.

On top of the big money that Bentley buyers already pay to buy the GT S, the coupe will also consume between 22.6 and 23.3L/100km.

The biggest standard upgrade, then, is the adoption of Bentley Dynamic Ride – the Audi-developed 48-volt active anti-roll bar system that can electronically crank up 1300Nm of torque in 0.3sec to reduce body roll in corners.

The system also makes the car more comfortable by disconnecting a wheel’s forces from interfering with the suspension work on the other end of the axle.

Visual upgrades for both new S models include a black-gloss radiator, new 21- and 22-inch alloy wheels, red-painted brake callipers and four black tailpipes, along with S badging on the flanks.

Rounding out the S package inside is Dinamica suede-like upholstery on the steering wheel and gear lever, two-tone leather seat trim and an S emblem embroidered into the head restraints.

Australian pricing, specs and availability is yet to be announced.
