The all-electric 2025 Chery E5 SUV has had its price slashed by $3000, with the new Hyundai Kona Electric, Kia EV3 and MG ZS EV rival now priced from $39,990 plus on-road costs (ORCs).
Launched under a year ago as the Chery Omoda E5, the ‘Omoda’ badge has been dropped, with new ‘Chery’ badging added at the front, rear, on the wheel caps and on the steering wheel.
Chery has also renamed the E5’s combustion-powered Omoda 5 twin the Chery C5, with the Omoda name set to be reused in the future as a standalone sub-brand with its own family of cars.
Omoda will then be sold alongside the new Jaecoo lineup in different dealers to the Chery brand, with the first vehicles to land in Australia likely to include both the Omoda 3 and Omoda 7 SUVs.
The Chery E5 range, meanwhile, now kicks off with a base Urban trim (replacing the BX trim) with the top-of-the-range EX renamed Ultimate, matching what’s already happened on the Chery C5 to which the E5 is related.
Differences over the pre-name switch include dropping the built-in satnav on both models and removing the puddle lights from the flagship version.
That means the E5 Urban still boasts 18-inch alloy wheels, a full-size spare, LED headlights and taillights, a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, a 12.3-inch infotainment system, a rear-view camera, front and rear parking sensors, a six-speaker Sony sound system, a 50-watt wireless phone charger, auto wipers, adaptive cruise control with lane-keep assist and centring, blind-spot monitor, rear cross-traffic alert and driver attention warning.
The more luxurious E5 Ultimate adds a 360-degree camera, a sunroof, faux leather heated front and rear (outboard only) seats, a heated steering wheel, an eight-speaker sound system, an electric tailgate, ambient lighting, rear privacy glass, acoustic front glass and gloss back window trim.
Like before, all versions come with a 150kW/340Nm front electric motor that is combined with a 61.1kWh lithium-ion battery that provides for a European WLTP verified range of 430km.
Following the price cut, the 2025 Chery E5 now costs $39,990 plus ORCs – $3000 cheaper than the base Omoda E5 BX it replaces – although the small all-electric small SUV is currently on sale nationwide priced from $40,000 drive away.
The E5 Ultimate is now priced at $43,990 plus ORCs, a $2000 saving over the outgoing Omoda E5 EX. Like its cheaper brother, Chery also has a nationwide $45,000 drive-away special offer currently running for its flagship EV.
