We're excited about the Liqui-Moly Bathurst 12 Hour this weekend, but if we weren't making the pilgrimage to the Mountain, then we'd be heading to Southbank!
That's where motoring.com.au's mates at Motum Simulation are staging their version of the Bathurst classic – via the running of Motum's inaugural 'Virtual Bathurst 12 Hour'.
The timing of the event corresponds with the actual race and kicks off at 5:45am on Sunday morning. Two teams of drivers will race off in a virtual Audi R8 LMS and a GT3 spec Porsche 911 R. The Porsche team is made up entirely of members from the Porsche Club of Victoria. And motoring.com.au and carsales.com.au fans and readers are invited to come along for the ride.
Motum Simulation MD and virtual race director Steve Hoinville told motoring.com.au: "Sim-racing and e-sports has come a long way in recent times and we believe this is a fantastic and fun opportunity to show what the future may look like."
"We are excited to not only race against the teams at the Bathurst 12 Hour but to showcase our technology."
Motum says its teams will be made up of a diverse group of drivers – a mix of real world track racers and others with only sim-racing experience.
"There will be pit stops, driver changes, fuel strategy, tyre strategy and damage making it a realistic race," Hoinville explained.
You can see all the action of Motum's inaugural 'Virtual 12 Hour' at the Motum Simulation Race Driver Training Centre at 29A Miles St, Southbank (Vic).
