GENEVA MOTOR SHOW: Singapore's first supercar breaks cover

Dendrobium hypercar takes shape ahead of March reveal

Singapore will purportedly deliver an “electric revolution” at this year’s Geneva motor show with the unveiling of the country's first hypercar, the Dendrobium.

Touted as the brainchild of electric mobility company Vanda Electrics, the new two-seat supercar concept will be unveiled in March with what’s claimed to be superlative performance and design.

The hypercar will have a loose tie-in with the Williams Formula 1 team, according to Dendrobium, employing a “theatrical” design that includes an automatic roof and doors which resemble a fully-opened dendrobium flower, a genus of orchards native to Singapore.

“Vanda Electrics has engaged Williams Advanced Engineering, the technology and engineering services division of the Williams Group – which also includes Williams Martini Racing – as its technical partner to build the Dendrobium concept and assist in future project development,” an official release reads.

“The division specialises in race-bred aerodynamics, composites, batteries and electric drivetrains.”

The Dendrobium concept will feature Scottish leather sourced from the Bridge of Weir Leather Company throughout its interior.

Vanda Electrics hasn’t offered much else detail, except to say the concept will build on the success of its existing ‘Ant Truck’ commercial vehicle and electric scooter.

Vanda Electrics chief executive Larissa Tan said the Dendrobium would revolutionise electric propulsion.

“The Dendrobium is inspired by nature and rooted in technology, a marriage of design and engineering – I can’t wait to reveal the car to the world in March.”
