Sir Elton John’s Ferrari Testarossa up for sale in Oz

The iconic red Ferrari Testarossa owned by Sir Elton is one of three classic Ferraris and three Maseratis available in an upcoming online auction.

A stunning red Ferrari Testarossa which was gifted to Sir Elton John in 1987 for his 40th birthday is being auctioned off here in Australia at Shannons 40th Anniversary Auction later this month.

Perfect for cruising the Yellow Brick Road, the Rosso Corsa Testarossa was presented to the famous British pop star as a gift of appreciation by his record company, MCA, in March 1987complete with a large red ribbon and a feather boa. He received the exotic Pininfarina-designed Ferrari along with an array of other gifts from A-list guests including Sir Richard Branson, Lulu, Lionel Richie, Tim Rice and Phil Collins.

Sir Elton John is a big Ferrari and classic car fan and loved their design, shape and style. During his ownership, the Testarossa was immaculately maintained and comes with its odometer showing just 10,735 miles (17,276 km) on the clock. With its 12-cylinder engine, it's sure to go like a rocket, man.

Sir Elton John has owned an extensive collection of vehicles over the years which have included several Bentleys, Rolls-Royce, Aston Martins, and Ferraris. In the early 2000s, he sold a large chunk of his collection at auction, saying that he wanted other people to enjoy them.

The Ferrari remained part of his collection until 2003 when it was sold to a UK dealer. The car then made its way to Australia around 2010 where it remained with its previous Sydney owner before being purchased by the current owners some seven years ago from a listing on carsales.

The Testarossa is now looking for a new home and is expected to sell for between $300,000 and $350,000 at Shannons 40th Anniversary Auction. The winning bidder will also receive a copy of a signed letter from Sir Elton himself too.
