Six BMW ‘Neue Klasse’ EVs to launch before 2030

2025 BMW iX3 to be first of six new-generation electric cars rolling out in quick succession

BMW is gearing up for a new model onslaught starting in 2025, when it rolls out the first of its next-generation cars based on its Neue Klasse platform as part of a rapid-fire offensive to launch six all-new EVs before 2030.

The first to land will be the second-generation BMW iX3 due later next year, replacing the current electric SUV.

According to Automotive News, BMW hopes the all-new iX3 will finally give it the edge over dominant EV brands like Tesla as it will boast the brand’s flagship EV technology.

Neue Klasse includes an all-new vehicle architecture with a redesigned battery pack that forms part of the car’s structure.

This arrangement saves both weight and costs, improves packaging and lowers the physical dimensions of the power pack, while allowing for higher energy density.

At the same time, BMW will move from cylindrical cells to prismatic cells. The result is the iX3 will offer 30 per cent more range and be 30 per cent quicker to charge.

Thanks to its new sixth-generation eDrive powertrain, the iX3 will also be 25 per cent more efficient.

Set to use an 800-volt electrical architecture, the first Neue Klasse model will also be 40 per cent more cost effective.

Once introduced, the iX3 will be followed by the 3 Series sedan that will be built in Munich, Mexico and China.

The third model will be the iX4 coupe-sedan that will be joined by a wagon in 2027.

The fifth introduction remains a mystery but before 2030 the sixth Neue Klasse BMW will be the entry-level iX1 small SUV.

All six models will be heavily inspired by the new design language introduced by the sharply-styled BMW Vision Neue Klasse concept shown last year.
