Six-month wait for Subaru Forester buyers

And three to four months for XV and Outback customers as Subaru joins growing list of brands facing supply issues

The Subaru Forester is sold out until at least the fourth quarter of this year, when stocks of an updated MY23 version of the popular mid-size SUV will arrive in local showrooms, with Subaru Australia confirming all MY22 stock has been exhausted amid the “industry wide supply constraints”.

According to Subaru, prospective Forester buyers should speak to their local dealer about registering their interest in the upcoming version, pricing and specifications for which will be confirmed closer to its local release.

Given the Forester just underwent a fairly comprehensive facelift, the Japanese brand’s best-selling model is unlikely to receive any meaningful changes for the new model year, but we’ll keep you updated as details come to hand.

It isn’t just the company’s mid-size SUV that’s facing delivery delays, however, with the Japanese brand advising that some Subaru Outback, Subaru XV and Subaru Impreza customers may experience waiting times of up to four months depending on the variant, colour and options.

Fans of Subaru performance models are slightly better off, with first deliveries of the long-awaited, new-generation 2022 Subaru WRX slated to start next month, however, there will be at least a three-month wait for the stocks of the MY23 Subaru BRZ coupe line-up to arrive, in September.

While some other brands have openly admitted their supply constraints will likely continue into 2023, Subaru’s local arm declined to nominate a predicted timeframe for a return to normal programming, due to the “constantly evolving” nature of the global supply chain crisis.

“Consistently strong demand for Subaru vehicles combined with industry-wide supply constraints, may, at times, result in some Subaru customers experiencing extended delivery timeframes,” a spokesperson said.

“We continue to work closely with Subaru Corporation to minimise the impact to our customers.

“We encourage customers to speak to their local Subaru retailer to secure a readily available vehicle to meet their requirements or alternatively, advise delivery timeframes for specific orders.”
