Skoda Karoq Sportline powers up

Czech car-maker announces more power and Sportline trim for small SUV; confirmed for Australia

Skoda has released pictures and details of a flagship new Sportline version of its recently launched Karoq SUV.

The new Skoda Koroq Sportline will be available in Europe with both the car-maker's 110kW and 140kW 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbo-diesel engines, as well as the regular 110kW 1.5-litre TSI petrol four we get in Australia.

But the big news is Skoda Karoq Sportline will introduce a range-topping 2.0-litre TSI turbo-petrol engine.

Producing 140kW, the 2.0-litre turbo engine is set to become the fastest Karoq available, since there's no word on whether the Czech brand will develop an RS model.

Skoda is expected to release performance figures closer to its official launch at the Paris motor show in October, but it's thought a 0-100km/h time of less than seven seconds is a dead cert.

Featuring black 18-inch alloys, with larger 19-inch rims as an option, the Sportline trim adds a sporty new bodykit that includes a darkened grille, roof rails and wing mirrors, plus tinted windows.

Inside, the Sportline gets sport seats trimmed in a new material that's claimed to be more breathable than regular fabric, making it more comfortable in hot climates.

Other sporty touches include a perforated leather-wrapped steering wheel with silver stitching, black headlining, stainless steel pedals, LED ambient lighting and, if you pay extra for the virtual cockpit, a special Sportline display.

The news that Skoda will offer a Sportline version of its Karoq comes a day after the Czech brand announced that European buyers will soon be able to buy a more rugged Karoq Scout.

The Karoq Scout has been ruled out for Australian buyers, but the Sportline will venture Down Under. Skoda Australia has yet to confirm what engines it will import with the sportier small SUV, but an announcement is likely following its debut in October at the Paris show.

Currently in Australia, the Skoda Karoq is only available in front-wheel drive 110TSI form, powered by a 1.5-litre turbo-petrol engine and priced from $29,990 (plus on-road costs) for the six-speed manual.
