Skoda India has revealed the first interior details of the Skoda Kushaq, a new small SUV that will debut later this month before going on sale in India thereafter.
The production-spec SUV’s internals appear to draw inspiration from the Skoda Vision IN SUV concept that was shown at the Auto Expo last year.
Like that vehicle, the Kushaq is expected to be based on a localised version (MQB AO IN) of the small-car platform that underpins the Skoda Scala and Volkswagen and Polo hatchbacks.
But unlike either of those models, the Kushaq isn’t likely to grace Australian roads.
Taking pride of place inside is a freestanding touch-screen measuring up to 10 inches, offering a laundry list of connectivity, navigation and other features. The centre screen will be flanked on one side by a virtual cockpit within the instrument cluster.
Elsewhere, the Kushaq sports a layered dashboard that employs a thin chrome strip to separate top from bottom, as well as connect the large, chrome-lined vents.
Splashes of orange have been used liberally through the dash, door panels and centre console to lend the Kushaq a funky, contemporary bent.
Elsewhere, the Kushaq’s steering wheel features knurled scroll wheels plus buttons for navigating various phone, infotainment and cruise control functions.
The Kushaq is set to be powered by a choice of 1.0-litre and 1.5-litre petrol drivetrains, mated to either a six-speed manual or torque converter/dual-clutch automatic gearboxes, depending on engine.
Expect a drawn-out drip feed of the Skoda Kushaq in the lead-up to its global reveal, which is happening on March 18 European time.
“The Skoda Kushaq will be officially launched later this month and is the first of four models from the Skoda and Volkswagen brands as part of the INDIA 2.0 product campaign,” a press release from the car-maker states.
“The vehicles are manufactured locally in India and are based on the MQB-A0-IN version of the Volkswagen Group’s Modular Transverse Toolkit specially adapted for India by Skoda Auto.”
