Tougher Skoda Karoq Scout revealed

Czech car-maker's small SUV gets standard all-wheel drive, plenty of protective cladding and underbody armour -- but no more off-road ability

First pictures of the new Skoda Karoq Scout have been revealed ahead of the compact crossover's world debut at the Paris motor show this October.

Claimed to have been created for "lovers of the great outdoors", the small SUV comes equipped with the Czech car-maker's all-wheel drive system and a rough terrain package as standard.

The Skoda Karoq Scout is set to be launched in Europe with either the 110kW 1.5-litre TSI engine combined with a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic, or 110kW and 140kW versions of the brand's 2.0-litre turbo-diesel.

The lower-output variant will come standard with a six-speed manual and the option of the speed-speed DSG, while the more powerful diesel will only get the latter.

Featuring chrome and silver design elements, black plastic wheel-arch linings and 18-inch alloy wheels, the Scout will also come with the option of larger 19-inch rims.

Finally, the tougher Karoq bags tinted windows and 'Scout' logos on the front mudguards.

Inside, the seats come with a contrasting black-brown colour scheme, as well as embroidered 'Scout' lettering.

As standard, the more adventurous Karoq also gets a leather-wrapped multifunction steering wheel, stainless steel pedals and LED ambient lighting.

The Skoda Karoq Scout is set to go on sale in Europe shortly after the Paris show in early October, but Skoda Australia says it has no plans to import the new model Down Under.

The standard Karoq only went on sale early this month here, where the Czech car-maker chooses to sell only the Karoq 1.5 TSI with front-wheel drive, priced from $29,990 (plus on-road costs) for the six-speed manual.

Instead of the Scout, Skoda Australia says the local Karoq line-up will be bolstered by a higher-grade Sportline version, which will be revealed alongside the Scout in Paris.
