Skoda VISION 7S Concept interior revealed
Upcoming flagship SUV to seat seven within Czech brand’s most advanced cabin yetThe high-tech seven-seat interior of the Skoda VISION 7S Concept has been previewed for first time ahead of its unveiling later this year, confirming the all-new flagship SUV will bring an innovative three-row seating configuration.
It's not yet been confirmed whether the big new SUV will be a replacement for the current Skoda Kodiaq or a bigger battery-powered sibling for the upcoming Enyaq iV electric SUV, which will come to Australia late next year – although evidence of a charging cable in the design sketch suggests the latter.
The Skoda VISION 7S Concept’s 2+2+3 seating includes a novel mounting point for an integrated baby seat, but when the production version based on the concept arrives the extended centre console might be dropped in favour of a traditional three-seat second row, although the two captain’s chairs might still be offered as an option.
If you're wondering why the integrated child seat is where it is – in the centre of the vehicle – it's because Skoda says it's the safest place.
Elsewhere, physical buttons have been replaced by haptic controls on the steering wheel and door panels for a cleaner, more minimalist design.
Ambient lighting also advances with the latest Skoda concept. It activates when people get in and out the car and can even indicate the battery charging status to the driver.
Other fresh thinking incorporated into the VISION 7S cabin includes a dashboard that features a relax mode for when the car is charging. This sees the steering wheel and instrument cluster slide forward for more lounging space. The second-row seats also recline.
The large infotainment screen, meanwhile, pivots from portrait to landscape to better display movies.
On the infotainment side there are also shortcuts to streaming services to enable occupants to easily access YouTube or Netflix.
Another handy feature that follows on from Skoda's clever umbrella-in-the-doors feature is a pair of backpacks integrated within the driver and passenger seats.
There are phone mounts on the driver’s and passenger’s seat backs too, allowing rear passengers to more conveniently watch their own entertainment on the go.
There's still no official word on when the Skoda VISION 7S Concept will be unveiled, but it's tipped to be unwrapped around September.
As well as its clever cabin design, Skoda’s new flagship SUV will also debut the Czech brand's latest ‘Modern Solid’ design language.
“The new design language is minimalist, functional and authentic. In the future, we will continue to focus on Skoda's traditional strengths, such as generous space, easy usability and a high degree of functionality,” said Skoda design chief Oliver Stefani.
