Skoda VISION 7S Concept teased again

High-tech flagship seven-seat Skoda SUV has oval-shaped tiller, free-standing touch-screen and more

Fresh images of the flagship Skoda VISION 7S Concept have been released on social media that preview the high-tech seven-seat family SUV’s advanced cockpit ahead of its full unveiling on August 30.

Up until now, we’ve only seen a blurred image of the flagship large SUV’s exterior and been given a sneak peek at its novel interior packaging.

The latest images show the interior design is dominated by a freestanding portrait-mounted infotainment touch-screen, unusual oval-shaped steering wheel and a flat and wide dash.

This button-less minimalist approach is thought to be typical of Skoda’s new ‘Modern Solid’ design language that will influence all future models.

That said, below the infotainment system of the VISION 7S is a separate panel that operates the climate control, addressing criticism from those who hate cycling through sub-menus on screens to lower or raise cabin temperature.

Also helping improve ease of use are haptic and virtual interfaces.

Not pictured are the dedicated storage compartments that have been designed for passengers to dock their smartphones on the move.

It’s not yet been confirmed whether the big new SUV will be a replacement for the current Skoda Kodiaq or a bigger battery-powered sibling for the upcoming Skoda Enyaq iV electric SUV, which will come to Australia late next year – although evidence of a charging cable in the design sketch suggests the latter.

As demonstrated by the last teaser, the new Skoda VISION 7S Concept gets a 2+2+3 seating layout that includes a mounting point for an integrated baby seat.

However, the extended centre console might be dropped for production in favour of a traditional three-seat second row, with the two captain’s chairs remaining as an option.
