Mercedes-Benz and AMG's flagship open car, the SLS Roadster will set you back almost $490,000 when it arrives Down Under... And that's before on-road costs!
The SLS Roadster was launched recently in Europe as a partner to the marque's outrageous 'Gullwing' coupe. Now, Mercedes-Benz Australia has announced local pricing for the car. At $487,500, it is priced at $18,680 more than its coupe counterpart.
Both cars are built exclusively by AMG and are the only models that use aluminium 'heavy' front-engine/rear transaxle/drive architecture unique to Mercedes' high performance arm. They are powered by a bespoke version of AMG's 6.2-litre '63' Series petrol V8. Maximum power is a robust 420kW.
The first examples of the SLS Roadster are expected to arrive in Australia in January, though dealers will happily take your order -- and 'half a mill' -- now.
According to Mercedes-Benz Australia, the naturally-aspirated open-top SLS accelerates from zero to 100 km/h in 3.8 seconds, reaches 200 km/h in 11.3 seconds and has a top speed of 317 km/h (electronically limited). Fuel consumption (combined) is 13.3L/100 km.
Mercedes has not detailed the SLS standard equipment listing yet – expect a high level of standard kit. Benz will equip the SLS Amg Roadster with eight airbags and Blind Spot Assist as standard. The Roadster also features adjustable suspension not offered to date on the coupe.
