Slushbox for Lotus Evora S

Supercharged flagship of the Lotus range is now offered with a Toyota-supplied six-speed auto

The supercharged Evora S can now be purchased with the IPS (Intelligent Precision Shift) automatic transmission, according to the distributor of Lotus cars in Australia.

IPS is a six-speed box sourced from Toyota for the standard, naturally-aspirated Evora, and was a natural choice, in view of the car's 3.5-litre V6 also being a Toyota unit. Likewise, the same engine powers the Evora S, but with a Harrop HTV 1320 supercharger bolted to it, lifting engine output from 206kW to 257.5kW. Although the setup sounds much like the engine developed for the locally-built TRD Aurion, the Eaton Twin Vortex Series technology was conceived by Lotus, the company says.

Fitted with the automatic transmission, the 0-100km/h time falls back to 5.0 seconds (from 4.8 for the manual). Similarly, the auto box saps performance at top speed, with the IPS variant reaching 266km/h, versus 277km/h for the manual. On the flipside, the Evora S IPS is slightly more economical, at 9.7L/100km (versus 9.9 for the manual).

The introduction of the Evora S IPS also marks a raft of running changes for the entire Evora range. In press material released by the distributor, those changes number 120 all up, including a new exhaust system with a switchable valve system to provide an improved exhaust note above 4,700 rpm or constantly, when the sport mode is engaged.  All Evora variants benefit from a higher grade leather trim, with the Lotus logo stitched into the seat back. Leather trim is now applied to other areas of the upper dashboard. Brake callipers are now red, revised floor mats feature leather piping and an embossed logo, there's a new steering wheel design and the Evora S gains gunmetal finish on steering wheel and dashboard. The manual Evora's gear cluster features closer ratios as standard, and bi-xenon headlights are now standard, as are colour matched door handles.

Pricing starts from $123,990 for the Evora, rising to $128,990 for the IPS variant. Evora S is priced at $145,990 and the IPS version tops out at $150,990.
