Smart #5 pricing and specs confirmed

Smart has launched its largest and most technologically advanced vehicle yet, with the all-electric Smart #5 arriving in Australia from $58,900 plus on-road costs. Sitting above the smaller #1 and #3 SUVs, the mid-size Smart #5 brings an 800V electrical architecture, a claimed WLTP range of up to 590km and ultra-fast charging capability as it enters one of the country's most competitive EV segments ahead of customer deliveries commencing in November.

The Smart #5 represents a significant expansion for the Mercedes-Benz and Geely-backed brand, moving it into the popular mid-size SUV segment currently occupied by vehicles including the Tesla Model Y, Polestar 4 and Zeekr 7X.

Available in Pro+, Premium+ and Brabus grades, every Smart #5 uses an 800V electrical architecture and a 100kWh battery pack. Smart claims the single-motor rear-wheel-drive Pro+ and Premium+ variants can travel up to 590km on the WLTP cycle, while the flagship dual-motor all-wheel-drive Brabus achieves up to 540km.

The battery supports DC charging at up to 400kW, allowing a 10-80 per cent recharge in less than 18 minutes under ideal conditions. Vehicle-to-load functionality is also standard, allowing external devices to be powered directly from the vehicle's battery.

Mercedes-Benz's design team has penned a more upright and rugged look than the smaller Smart SUVs, with the #5 featuring a boxier shape, LED matrix headlights and a spacious cabin layout. Smart says its "wheels-at-the-corners" design helps deliver an 85 per cent cabin space utilisation rate, while folding seats and a large luggage area are designed to improve practicality.

Inside, the cabin features leather upholstery, 256-colour ambient lighting and a multi-screen digital interface powered by an AMD V2000 computing platform. Premium variants also gain a 20-speaker Sennheiser Signature audio system and passenger-side display.

Ride and handling are supported by double-wishbone front suspension and a multi-link rear arrangement, while multiple drive modes allow the SUV to better adapt to varying road conditions.

For buyers seeking maximum performance, the Smart #5 Brabus develops 475kW and 710Nm from its dual-motor powertrain. Smart claims the range-topper can accelerate from 0-100km/h in just 3.8 seconds.

The newcomer also arrives with strong safety credentials. While yet to be tested by ANCAP, the Smart #5 earned a five-star Euro NCAP rating and was named Euro NCAP's Best in Class Large SUV for 2025.

The Smart #5 gives the brand its strongest opportunity yet to grow beyond its niche positioning in Australia, placing it directly into the country's biggest and fastest-growing EV segment.

Working with distributor LSH Auto Australia, Smart will begin customer deliveries in November, with the new flagship SUV expected to become the centrepiece of the local lineup as the company continues expanding its Australian retail and service network.
