With the array of new models of electric cars hitting the market and the average price of them coming down significantly, the greener way of driving is surging in popularity with car buyers and on social media users globally.
UK insurance comparison site Quotezone.co.uk analysed Instagram and TikTok to uncover which electric car models were the most popular on social based on the combined number of hashtags each model has received, as well as revealing which models are the priciest.

As one of the world's most well-known makers of electric cars, it is no surprise that Tesla claimed the top two positions. The most popular EV to feature on Instagram and TikTok is Tesla Model 3, with over 1.3 billion combined shares. This is 249.7% more than its sister model, the Tesla Model S, which finished in second place with 371,892,974 shares across the platforms.
Audi's e-tron came in third with 167,907,366 shares and was the most popular EV SUV. The next SUV to appear on the list was Volvo’s electric SUV, the XC40 Recharge.
Porsche’s first electric car the Taycan took out fourth place receiving 92,971,382 social shares. The Korean EV SUV duo of Kia EV6 and Hyundai Ioniq 5, carsales Car of the Year for 2021 round out the top 10.
