South Australian juniors claim rally win
Young guns shine in little league at Bosch Australian Rally ChampionshipThe future of rallying in South Australia looks assured after local juniors claimed the Kumho Future Champions award at the fourth round of the Bosch Australian Rally Championship last weekend.
Local knowledge came to the fore in the Scouts Rally, with South Australian native James Rodda taking out the four-wheel-drive class, and compatriot Guy Tyler winning the two-wheel-drive class.
Both drivers were awarded a set of Kumho rally tyres valued at $1000 at the end of the three days of competition.
Rodda competed in the opening round of the championship, Rally Calder, where he finished second but there was no stopping him on home soil in his Subaru Impreza WRX STi.
"We came here with the goal of winning both the Rallyschool Australian Junior Challenge (RAJC) and the South Australian Rally Championship round, and we've done just that," said Rodda.
Rodda and Tyler must now face their respective four and two-wheel-drive rivals in the RAJC final at the Snake Racing Rally Coffs event in October.
The winner of the final in both four and two-wheel-drive categories will receive a fully-prepared entry for the final round of the Bosch Australian Rally Championship, Rally Victoria, plus a range of other prizes.
The Kumho Future Champions Award is designed to assist and encourage young drivers taking part in the Australian Junior Rally Championship to step up to the top levels of the sport.
