A luxury variant of Nissan's GT-R super coupe will be launched globally in October, says the car's Program Director, Kazutoshi Mizuno.
Pictures of the new variant, the Spec M GT-R, have emerged in recent days, showing the car under test. According to the spy photographers, Carparazzi, the Spec M model will feature a suspension setup revised for improved long-distance touring and the cabin will be upgraded with comfier seats and a premium audio system. The general layout of the interior will reduce the car's sporty focus in favour of a luxury feel.
Carparazzi photographers reckon that the new car will be identifiable by new bumpers, front and rear, explaining why these have been disguised in the spy pics.
"Please wait for this October," said Mizuno-san during discussion at Phillip Island last week. Mizuno said that the decision to introduce the car to Australia would ultimately rest with Nissan Australia.
The local MD, Dan Thompson, sat alongside Mizuno during the interview, but wouldn't reveal whether the car would come here or not. Considering the GT-R has been a consistently strong sales performer since its launch here -- and through the GFC in particular -- we reckon it's more likely than not we'll see the Spec M here.
Mizuno also indicated that the company will release an upgrade kit around the same time, but refused to say what would be the highpoints of the upgrade kit for 2011.
