Mazda has peeled the covers off yet another special edition MX-5, this time in celebration of the iconic sports car’s 35th birthday.
Aptly named the 2024 Mazda MX-5 35th Anniversary, the Artisan Red Premium and beige drop-top was unveiled at the annual Mazda Fan Festa event and has already been confirmed for the Australian market, however local timing, pricing and specification details are all TBC.
Shown in both Roadster and hard-top RF forms, the MX-5 35th Anniversary is defined by its unique two-tone colour scheme inside and out, silver alloy wheels and a smattering of ‘35th Anniversary’ badges and emblems throughout.
The Roadster is the more striking of the two body styles owing to its beige fabric roof, however both versions flaunt a beige leather interior contrasted against by burgundy trim inserts and a matching special edition key fob.
No changes have been made to the mechanical or chassis set-ups, meaning Australian versions will be powered by a 2.0-litre four-cylinder petrol engine outputting 135kW/305Nm and driving the rear wheels via either a six-speed manual or six-speed automatic transmission.
Scale model of the cars will also be included in the asking price to enhance the exclusivity and reinforce the 35th Anniversary’s identity as a special edition, even if the production run will be dictated by time rather than a specific build number.
Mazda Australia has delivered 506 MX-5s so far this year ending September, making it the third-best-selling sports car under $80,000 – with an 18.8 per cent market share – behind the Subaru BRZ (765/28.4%) and Ford Mustang (555/20.6%).
More details of the 35th Anniversary will be announced closer to its local release.
