Subaru Australia’s first special-edition BRZ sports car has been locked in for Australia and it will bring a range of interior and exterior upgrades over regular versions of the new two-door coupe.
The 2022 Subaru BRZ 10th Anniversary Edition celebrates the model’s 10th birthday and is a simulacrum of the recently-announced
, in both name and execution.Enthusiasts hoping for a turbocharged Subaru BRZ or even minor mechanical tweaks are out of luck for now. There are no changes to coupe’s 2.4-litre four-cylinder boxer engine or chassis.
Revealed overnight in Japan and limited to just 200 units in that market, the tizzied-up Subaru BRZ generates the same power and torque (174kW/250Nm) as standard models and will also be offered with a six-speed manual or six-speed auto transmissions.
Cosmetic changes over the top-spec BRZ S grade on which it’s based comprise 10th Anniversary logos on the rear windscreen and inside the car via embroidered door inserts, plus black wing mirrors, a black BRZ badge on the rear and matt-black 18-inch alloy wheels.
The WR Blue Pearl exterior paint work is matched by more subtle touches inside the cabin, including colour-coded blue stripes on the leather and suede seat trim, in lieu of red stripes.
Blue stitching covers many interior components, including the seats, armrests, steering wheel, handbrake and gear shifter.
A dark finish for the engine start button, drive mode switch and climate controls are also part of the package.
Subaru Australia has not revealed local pricing, full specification or an arrival date for the limited-edition model, nor how many units will come Down Under, but the special-edition BRZ has been confirmed for Australia.
“We are very pleased to confirm the 10th Anniversary Edition BRZ is bound for Australia. We look forward to sharing more details about this model in due course,” said Subaru Australia in a statement to media outlets.
“We are hugely excited about Subaru Corporation’s reveal of the limited 10th Anniversary Special Edition ‘S’ BRZ to celebrate a decade since the original BRZ went on sale.”
