Special McLaren Artura pays tribute to Queen's Platinum Jubilee

British supercar marque creates one-off Artura with special silver paint and Elizabeth II badging

McLaren has released pictures of a one-off McLaren Artura that pays tribute to Queen Elizabeth II's 70-year reign.

Created by the McLaren Special Operations (MSO) division, the commemorative 2022 McLaren Artura supercar comes painted in a special platinum silver paint and carries unique 'Elizabeth II' badging on the front bonnet.

Claimed to have taken eight days to formulate, MSO said most of that time was spent searching for a suitable metallic pigment.

The new platinum paint will also be available to order on other models from now on.

To be introduced later this year, the McLaren Artura was originally set to be launched back in the final quarter of 2021, with pricing kicking off at $449,500.

For that, you get a supercar based around the car-maker's latest MCLA carbon-fibre architecture that features an advanced 3.0-litre twin-turbo petrol V6 with an electric motor to develop 500kW of power and 720Nm of torque.

It drives the rear wheels through an eight-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission.

Against the clock, McLaren claims a 0-100kmh acceleration time of just 3.0 seconds, 0-200km/h in only 8.3sec, 0-300km/h in 21.5sec and a 330km/h top speed.

Its small 7.4kWh lithium-ion battery pack, meanwhile, offers a claimed zero-emissions driving range of 30km at speeds of up to 130km/h and takes 2.5 hours to charge to 80 per cent via a household power outlet.

MSO chief Ansar Ali said: "It has been an honour for MSO to create a new platinum paint in celebration of Her Majesty’s Platinum Jubilee this year.

"This special paint, which will be available for customers to select for years to come, will be a fitting tribute to mark this historic milestone."

Back in 2004, Queen Elizabeth opened the McLaren Technology Centre in Woking and was the first signatory of the guestbook.
