It made its world premiere at the New York Auto Show in April and now Chrysler’s brand spanking new SRT Viper will make its global debut in the same blue GTS Launch Edition livery as previous Viper generations at this weekend’s Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance.
SRT’s new Viper GTS doesn’t come with any extra performance, but the same deep blue finish and white speed stripes seen on previous new Viper models in 1996 and 2006 will be unique to this limited-edition – just like its polished five-spoke alloy wheels.
Inside, the 2013 SRT Viper GTS features Black Laguna leather trim with contrasting stitching, Alcantara fake suede headlining and satin-silver white bezels, plus a unique build plate to go with the special blue-backed version of the new ‘Stryker’ snake badge outside.
“Designed with Viper loyalists in mind, the 2013 SRT Viper GTS Launch Edition model brings back the classic paint schemes that have adorned all previous Viper coupe launches to help us celebrate the return of our brand’s flagship performance machine to the supercar market,” said SRT chief Ralph Gilles.
“Our American-built supercar showcases the very best we have to offer by incorporating superior craftsmanship, the finest materials, a host of new technologies and ergonomic improvements while respecting its focus on outright performance.”
Like the new Viper on which it’s based, the GTS is powered by a new aluminium 8.4-litre V10, which delivers no less than 477kW and 812Nm of torque to its rear wheels via a six-speed Tremec TR6060 manual transmission.
Alas, while pricing and specifications are yet to be revealed ahead of the new Viper’s US release in the fourth quarter of this year, there’s no word on a right-hand drive version of the new American super-coupe — let alone the GTS version pictured here.
