Lexus is preparing to launch its all-new Lexus LC 500 Convertible in Australia on September 29, announcing this week that the first-ever roofless LC model range will be crowned by a unique Limited Edition variant.
Pricing is being withheld for the Lexus LC 500 Convertible until the on-sale date, including for the special-edition that will be limited to no more than 10 units for Australia out of a global production run of 300.
The regular soft-top version of the luxury two-door boulevard cruiser is certain to be priced north of the hard-roofed LC 500 Coupe, which is set at $194,393 plus on-road costs, with the Limited Edition of the cabriolet attracting a further premium.
For the extra cash and cachet, the LE has a new ‘Structural Blue’ exterior colour that Lexus says uses a new multi-layer pigment construction that “enhances the interference effect on the light to reflect higher luminescence and saturation”.
It combines with a blue fabric roof and unique white-and-blue semi-aniline leather-accented interior trim.
Scuff plates denoting its limited-edition status are also included.
Full local specifications for the Lexus LC 500 Convertible are still to be released, but at its heart lies the sweet, brawny 5.0-litre naturally-aspirated V8 petrol engine (351kW/549Nm) used in the coupe, driving the rear wheels through a 10-speed automatic transmission.
A hybrid LC 500h version is not yet available worldwide for the cabrio.
The drop-top is expected to emulate the coupe in only being offered with a single model variant (other than the LE) and should be packed to the gunnels with standard equipment.
Lexus Australia has confirmed the exterior colour palette on the convertible will extend to 10 colours: Carnelian (red), Khaki Metal (green), Titanium, Deep Blue, Zinnia Yellow, Infrared, Graphite Black, Sonic Silver, White Nova and Slate Grey.
A variety of fabric roof colour and interior trim combinations will also be available, including red trim/black roof, ochre trim/beige roof, ochre trim/black roof or all-black inside and on top.
The roof is constructed using four layers – three fabric and one of sound-absorbing material – to minimise noise intrusion into the cabin when raised.
The lightweight hydraulic roof mechanism can lower the roof in a claimed 15 seconds at up to 50km/h.
All LC buyers receive a three-year membership to the Japanese brand’s Encore owner benefits program.
